Print out your own mini gift presentation box with matching tag. Download the PDFs of fun gift boxes and gift tags and print them out on your colour printer at home. You’ll easily work out how to fold the small boxes for those special little gifts for your loved ones.

The thicker the paper you can use with your printer the more sturdy your small box will be of course. No need for special software to print out these fun items. Just print direct off the PDF. These boxes are suitable for small presents such as jewellery, small trinkets and sweets or chocolates just to offer up some ideas.

The tags may be used with the boxes or work just fine on their own too as decoration for gifts wrapped with paper.

Google’s Marcel Gordon discusses the benefits of responsive web design and mobile SEO. From Moboom’s 2013 User Conference in London. And the message is loud and clear. What Google doesn’t love is a mobile phone App of your website.

Consider this little nugget of information when deciding whether you should have a website for desktop, latptop and tablet and a completely different App (actually any App at all) for mobile phone devices. Might be an idea to go back to the idea of responsive web design. Could be a healthier solution for your website when it comes to Google search. And your customers/clients/visitors will love it too.

The graphic design work that Yeah Can is doing for Hope Center in Hue Vietnam is ongoing. It’s a pity that small Center’s such as Hope Center don’t have the service of a design studio. It’s so essential.

The current project is the design of a product brochure for the handicraft business of Hope Center. However, it was decided that to show off eery single product would mean a ten page full colour document. The Center doesn’t have the budget to bring out such a prospectus. It was decided to show just a few items that represent the product range.

One page of the Z-Fold brochure is dedicated to the recycled wire products that are very popular especially in the Canadian market. These are bowls, fun ear rings, key rings, picture frames and mirrors amongst other items.

The reverse side of the brochure will focus on the A Luoi fabric that the Center markets as scarves, multi coloured blankets and rugs and the new range of small handbags.

Also on this page are the other gift items that are part of smaller product ranges. These are rattan silk bowls and recycled bottle caps that are fashioned into multi-coloured ear rings.

The Hope Center will start to plan new product ranges within the next week. The opening of the new shop space will mean that more products will be required to fill the space and to make the retail space run at a profit.

This move will also mean that the product tags and labels as well as customised wrapping paper will need to be designed and printed. There is always work to be done for the Hope Center.

A mobile website development for 2 Markets

It’s always great to get involved right at the beginning. When a new business client comes to Yeah Can it’s fun to work with them on their branding and their web presence. This was certainly the case with 2 Markets.

2 Markets is a telecom expense management service company. Although a brand new business entity, the two Principals involved, have each over 20 years experience in the field. They have worked for large enterprise clients and vendors gathering invaluable skills and expertise. It was logical for them to combine forces and start on their own.

2 Markets new Logo

First Task: The Logo

With a comprehensive creative brief Team Yeah Can was able to develop a range of logos for consideration. It’s not always easy to find the sweet spot with brand new clients. It does get easier once one knows how they think but a new relationship always needs some luck as well to get it right.

This time around Yeah Can got it quite close almost immediately and with some further tweaking the right one was found to everybody’s satisfaction. The two clients were really easy to please which is always gratifying.

As part of the project the business cards were also developed at the same time. In the past design studios used to have to design a range of material ready for print which included letterheads, business cards, compliment slips and print brochures. Now it’s only business cards usually and of course a website.

The new site needed mobile website development
As soon as the logo had been signed off the website design and lay-out was worked on. Very professional and seriously corporate colours of blue and white were chosen. This was of course to match up with the logo, but also to follow through the concept that 2 Markets deal with big clients and they needed to present themselves seriously.

Mobile technology is the future. Or at least the immediate future. One can never say what might lie on the other side of the horizon when it comes to technology. Seven or so years ago nobody would have given smartphones or tablets another thought. Now websites have to be viewable on these gadgets. Join or die!

InkTank Media’s team do exactly that. They are story tellers of note. Whether solopreneur or multinational company your message is best told in a compelling and engaging story format. InkTank Media will share your story in many wonderful ways from tweet messages to books.

Before tackling this site Yeah Can had already refreshed two blogs for InkTank Media and added two new designed and built blogs. The existing blogs InkTank with impressive monthly visitor numbers of between 500k to 1 million as well as Whizzpast have great content and were fun to refresh. New blogs Feelgoodwardrobe and Kidgamer came online during 2014. Check them all here or click on individual links above.

The InkTank Media team realised that although they had hugely successful blogs they actually didn’t have a web presence for themselves! Hence the new InkTank Media website. It needed to list the services, show off some excellent testimonials, introduce the team, showcase the impressive client list and encourage visitors to make contact.

We loved the format of the website and enjoyed adding the special features requested by clients. Just as InkTank Media engages with their words, this one page site engages with both words and design pulling visitors in to carry on scrolling and reading. Each block serves a function and leads to the next.

In particular what made the design process easy and fun for Yeah Can was the fact that client provided the copy up front. This meant the design could be developed with the message as central focus. A winning formula.

InkTank Media is not a White Label Web Design Partner. We also love working direct with clients.

Check their site here.

Source: www.yeahcan.com

Mobile Website Design – do I need it?
Mobile friendly websites, also known as responsive web design, are sites using fluid layout of your website that adapts to the device or gadget being used to view the website on. To test to see whether a website is responsive just adjust your browser window size to smaller or bigger and see what the content on the website does. If it disappears to the side then you know it is not mobile friendly. If it snaps into smaller blocks still showing you the content without chopped off bits, then you know it is responsive.

Facebook says that they accommodate up to 7 000 different gadgets. Hard to believe that there could be so many different mobile devices on the market. And there seems to be no end to the growth. It is vital that websites are built to accommodate these sizes or at least the most commonly used ones. In the past websites were built for the desktop computer. But now there is a fundamental shift in how people view and use the web and mobile friendly or responsive web design aims to serve this shift.

It’s first and foremost about behaviour
The web is not about big images and gorgeous colours? The web is all about users. Mobile friendly or responsive web design is all about users. For the first time in the history of the web the user and the gadgets that he uses comes first. And responsive web design reflects as much on responding to the users as responding to the gadget the user has to view your website with. The website has to serve the user first and foremost. This means that the pretty web design has to serve the usability of the website rather than be a focus by itself.

In the past web designers spent a considerable amount of time designing for the functionality and capacity of different browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. With mobile gadgets using a range of operating systems the desktop computer browser is no longer the standard.

Better user experience
Mobile friendly websites have as their main focus the experience the user has. Making a website work well on mobile devices means that the user has a better experience. Of course it also means that web designers can no longer work with endless pages, endless copy and endless galleries of images. Shorter content, fewer images, less information but more relevant info is the future for the web.

Simplified everything
The user is the important focus now. This means that web designers need to consider usability and simplified navigation as the start off point. How is the navigation going to look on a mobile device. Is it easy for the users to find their way around on the website when using their mobile or are they already going to get stuck at the first screen. Do they need to scroll for ever to get to the contact details or is your navigation letting them find the important details straight away. Simplify everything.

Easy to use
Web designers work with large monitors and often with several on their desks. They paint on a broad canvas. It’s easy for them to imagine that a user will find it as easy to use the website they are designing.

However, on mobile phones where the screen is small, and there are some tiny smartphones being used, it is not that easy to find ones way around. For ease of use responsive web design reassembles the site into columns so that users do not have to scroll sideways to try and find their way around. Smartphone users are used to scrolling down though and are happy to find their information that way. Mobile friendly websites make this possible.

Bigger is most definitely better
A small screen does not mean small print. There is a trend to bold font sizes and bold graphics and also to bold and easy to use buttons. (see Windows 8 tiles and their popularity!) And there is a reason for this. It’s easier to read on small screens.

Nothing is more irritating than trying to touch a button that is too small to point at. Making the buttons bigger is the route to go. Responsive web design has pushed web design into using larger font. Easy to view and read content needs to be presented in much larger sized font than previously used. In print you can get away with size 7 or 8 font. Not in mobile friendly web design. You need to go twice that size.

Mobile friendly websites
Starting a year or so ago mobile friendly websites are here to stay. When 42% of website visitors between the ages of 18 and 25 consider their mobile phones as the primary PC then you know that it’s not just a passing fad. It’s a whole new way to view the internet and it is here to stay.

Outsourcing to a White Label Web Design Partner
Digital marketing agencies and SEO professional will have regular calls for web design services. The question in their minds is whether they should carry through on this with an in-house set up or whether it might be a better idea to outsource web design to a white label web design partner.

Isn’t it better to be able to look over the shoulder of your in-house web designer and see that all is being delivered on time, on project specifications and of course the ultimate on budget. Well it will probably have to be over the shoulders of the designer and developer. There are very few creatives who are able to handle the coding as well as the design. This is particularly true in the mobile friendly website era.

Check out these reason why outsourcing to a white label web design partner could be the solution for you.

1) Competent and affordable Staff
Finding people who have the relevant skills is an ongoing headache for digital marketers and SEO agencies. Web design is evolving at a very rapid rate and to try and stay ahead of technologies, design and coding trends while working full time is difficult.

Of course what adds to the pain is the fact that the good people tend to find very lucrative employment with big agencies. Small digital marketing businesses cannot afford to compete. Their clients tend to be small businesses who cannot afford to pay thousands for a website.

2) The cost of equipment
Setting up a design studio is expensive. Machines, up to date software, fast internet access as well as furniture and fittings to go with it can create a very big hole in the budget. Spending thousands on the latest computer, add to that the main gadgets such as tablet and smartphones that one needs to be able to test responsive sites on and profit is eroded at a rapid rate.

3) Staff benefits and Incentives
One can argue that setting up a studio is a one off expense that should pay for itself within a year. However, the money that has to be spent to keep good staff can be as costly than the set up expense. And what’s worse it’s a monthly overhead.

Medical and dental plans, transport to work, kitchens that serve three meals a day, relaxation areas, staff get togethers and team building outings, supporting staff when ill or on maternity leave and the cost of a web design team can become prohibitive. Allowing your staff to work from home to try and cut down on some of these costs might not work either. Might as well outsource web design rather.

4) Designer on Leave
If you can only afford a small studio with one or two design people you will find yourself at a disadvantage when people want to go on leave or need to take medical breaks. All work grinds to a halt while your staff is away.

This means your present work is at a stand still. No new work can be started and there is nobody available to assist your clients should an emergency occur. Nobody available means no fees can be charged and this means that your income stream will dry up during this period. With four weeks of leave and perhaps three weeks of sick leave available to staff you could end up having two months where your design studio can not post any earnings. A fair gap in your income.

5) Too much work
For those months where you suddenly have an influx of work you wonder whether it is time to set up a second or even third work station. All the hassles that come with expansion such as new equipment, finding the right person and funding the extra salary expense can impact the budget. And you never know whether the new work will dry up.

It’s one of those situations where a new client brings a load of work but soon settles down into giving a few projects every three months instead of a bunch in one month. Now you have paid out for capital expenditure as well as increased your monthly overhead. But the fees are not keeping up with the extra outlay.

During these times it might be better to outsource web design rather than taking a chance on your expansion. When work comes in at a steady stream you can consider your additional in-house capacity. Or otherwise if your outsource web design partner works out you might just stay with them.

Outsource to a white label web design partner
A few very compelling reasons why you might want to use an outsource web design partner. Unnecessary costs to set up an in-house facility could be saved by using outside help. And it’s really not necessary to make less money. As long as you add a good percentage to what you pay your outsource web design partner you should not find yourself out of pocket.

It’s taken a while. But finally Yeah Can has its first Vietnamese client for logo and web design. And it’s a great one. The full monty so to speak. Client needs from Corporate ID to brochures, power point presentations and web sites, uniforms and more. It was certainly worth waiting for.

Client is a new educational institution. Under normal circumstances it would be a non-profit organisation. But it’s not easy to set up non-profits in Vietnam. The authorities are not that partial to people’s organisations that are not controlled by the government. That’s how it is and that’s how one has to work.

The logo design came as first part of the design project. Of course as with all modern businesses the name depends on what one can find as a URL that hasn’t been snapped up by somebody else. Not that easy in the dot com world at all where short names have been scooped up long ago.

So it was decided to go with dot asia and that made it easier in the end. Besides the URL it was also important to find an image that appealed to Asia and that would work in both English and Vietnamese. It’s important to take note of local customs while staying global.

For this reason it was decided to go with the Phoenix. Strangely enough the dragon is the symbol for masculine power and the Phoenix for the female power. And that seemed to work well with the idea of education as this is a nurturing field and women tend to do that better than men.

So here are the designs for the logo in both English and Vietnamese as well as the black and white version which is to be used for documents and stationery that needs to be copied and where a black and white logo is more appropriate.

What do you think?

The Hope Center in Hue, central Vietnam, always needs a bit of financial assistance. It stands to reason. When 10% of your work force is intellectually disabled you are just not going to be competitive in the business environment.

But at the same time you want to give everybody a chance to earn a living, even if it’s only a small one, so it helps to get some small bits of funding to make up for the production deficit.

Yeah Can had a friend visit from Dubai. She took one look at Hope Center, chatted to the boss Mrs Hong and many of the members who are always willing to smile and chat to a visitor and she was hooked. She promised a fund raising event to support Hope Center’s shop funding campaign. And she is delivering on it.

Back in Dubai she hired a Catamaran for the fund raising event. Now she needed some promotional items that she could send out to her list of friends and work contacts to entice them to participate.

Yeah Can jumped in and produced a fun design for the invitation. The invitation is designed to look like a sail as this event is to be held on a luxury yacht. And the colour blue was chosen to represent the idea of sailing into the blue. Add to that a touch of sailor talk in the form of the greeting and the entire message became very seaworthy!

The event is due to be held on May 13. Let’s hope that the thirteenth on a Friday will be a day of great luck for the Hope Center and that the participants will dig deep to help the Center’s shop fund raising campaign.

Good luck to Jude and her fund raising efforts. The Hope Center is thrilled with her work on their behalf.
